Book Review: Organizing the Care of My Dog

When my mother was recently rushed to the hospital and began what turned out to be an extended stay, she was lucky that we lived nearby and knew her dog very well.  With a myriad of health problems and the peculiarities common to older dogs, Andy requires quite a bit of specialized care. 

Though our own dogs are healthy, they, too, have their own special needs.  And, lately, I've contemplated what would happen to them if something happened to me and my husband.

That's where the Wise Up workbook, Organizing the Care of My Dog, comes in handy.  Morgan T. Orr and Penelope Orr Spry have authored this workbook to organize important information about caring for you dog - just in case.  In addition, the information is essential for your pet sitter.

Just as the title states, this is a workbook.  You fill in the blanks.  Sections include emergency contact information, health data about your dog, feeding and exercise information, your dog's daily routine, location of grooming and other supplies.   

In addition, you'll find good basic information about making financial arrangements for you dog, including the establishment of a legal trust.  As the authors note, Organizing the Care of My Dog acts as a lifeline document for your dog if someone other than yourself must provide your dog with care.

A few months ago I might have thought such a workbook silly.  As a DIYer, I know I could put together a file of information like this for my dogs.  However, having experienced a family emergency, I'm painfully aware this workbook could make things so much easier for someone who has to step in with pet care.
