Wouldn't it be nice if...

In my spare time, I've found I have a horrific addiction for looking up homeless animals on petfinder.com. Occasionally, I'll find a pet, either dog or cat, that draws me in with longing.

As I'm attempting to move forward with dog training/testing at work, I can't help but configure potential ideas in my head about how I could use this opportunity to help other dogs that are homeless.

Where I used to work at, a select number of dogs were kept on the premises for training, as well as being available for adoption.

If I could do something similar, even if for just one dog, to help it become a Canine Good Citizen that someone could adopt, I could think of nothing more fulfilling. Perhaps when I meet with the head manager, I will think about asking them permission for such a feat...even at a discounted rate.

*sighs*

Maybe one day soon, little homeless doggies...

The downsides of vet office work...

Today a greyhound came in as a drop off for x-rays. He didn't leave again, unfortunately, after they found tumors and masses in several places throughout his body. He was 13.

His name was Eli.

Why oh why was the first PTS I'd ever seen a greyhound :'(.

The Sun Will Come Out...

...tomorrow?

Things may be quiet for the next few days.

Holding on with all my might...I've never wanted something more in my life.

Hanging in there, with only Ferguson for company <3

We're All Wet

Last night, I PASSED my CGC Evaluator test! As soon as my kit comes in, I will officially be able to test dogs for their CGC test, as well as instruct classes! This is a HUGE yay to me! I've been planning on this since before I got Ferguson...I'm so glad I was able to reach my goals!

New goals are popping up all over the place though, regarding how I'll proceed with this certification. Will update with a proposal for work later on...

To celebrate success, Eric and I took Ferguson to Sugarloaf Mountain for what we thought was a 2.5 mile hike. As you can see from the picture, Ferguson really seemed to enjoy himself. He was much more fit-acting than myself, actually trotting alongside Eric at a nice pace (unlike me, who dragged behind with heavy breaths). Ferg is a dog that has no trouble lagging/telling you he's tired, so I know he was really enjoying himself! We were only afraid that he would get overheated and exhaust himself.

Yet, our fears were put to rest when the sky turned into this:

Shortly after, then we looked like this:

Ohhh well. We'll be sure to check the weather next time...

In the meantime, we'll be looking forward to getting my kit in the mail to take my next step into the world of dog training ^_^.

Lexy

Yes, this is a dog blog, but occasionally, other things may slip in...one of them being my new friend, Lexy the rabbit.

My neighbors are gone for two weeks, and I've been caring for Katrina, Lexy (See above), and Pebbles, another rabbit who lives separately from Lexy. However, over the past week, Lexy and I have become great friends. He is always very sweet, easy going, and runs to greet me when I come in the room. In the photo, he is enjoying a bit of carrot I brought to him. He's even made me re-think getting a rabbit of my own...though Pebbles is alternatively very skittish and active, and they both poop a ridiculous amount for their sizes, so...eh. If they ever needed to rehome Lexy, however, I think I'd take him in a heartbeat.

In addition to sitting for the three neighbor pets, I've began working full time. Admittedly, I don't really like it, at least not yet. This week, I worked seven days straight with no days off. Urg. Tomorrow, Saturday, is my last day before I have Sunday free. I feel like collapsing.

The thing I've liked the least is the amount that I'm away from Ferguson. In the past, Ferguson seemed to be worn down by having to go to daycare with me EVERY day I worked. Since then, I've been working excessively hard with alone training, which he has since accepted, but still does not enjoy. Today, actually, was the first day I'd taken him to work in over a month, now that he's had his second treatment for hookworms and is safe to be around the other dogs. He did actually pretty okay...I think it was a good change of pace for him. In any case, I've really missed getting to be with my boy <3. Looking forward to Sunday when we can finally have a day of pure vegging....
