Thank You Sampson and Delilah

Though I announced the finale of Jeffie's birthday party celebration, the party actually continued for a few days.

The real highlight was the day Jeffie (aka The Mailman) went up to the road to the mailbox and found a package addressed to himself.

He'd received a birthday surprise from Sampson and Delilah!  There was an adorable Pointer dog themed birthday card with this message:

Inside were amazing goodies!
Jeffie spent a lot of time giving them a good sniff over!

Rudy honed in immediately on the Omaha Steaks dog treats!

Jeffie really liked the gecko dog toy.
I think he was trying to sniff out if that was Delilah or Sampson's smell.

Rosie's eyes were wide as saucers
when she got her first taste of those steak treats!
In fact, all three dogs loved them.
Once we opened that package, nobody cared about anything else.

Jeffie, always a good brother, let Rosie check out the gecko.
She loved the double squeakers!

Thank you so much, Sampson, Delilah, and Jodie at Heart Like a Dog for the barking good surprise!

      Rosie Update
Our puppy girl is growing up.  Fast.  On Sunday, she weighed 40 pounds!  On Monday, she jumped on the bed all by herself.  Her coat began to show some curls a couple of weeks ago and there's now some telltale feathering.  She is, by far, the easiest puppy we've ever had.  Zero destruction.  All joy.

      Coyote Update
The visitors we shot at must have spread the word.  The only coyotes weve seen lately have been the hunting pair.  We've spotted them far to the south along our boundary line.  I like carrying the airhorn with me, but it has had a strange side affect.  During the March Madness basketball games, when the airhorns sound off?  The dogs race to either the front door or slider to see the "danger."

Bithday Party for Jeffie:  You're Invited!
I know Jeffie joins me in thanking  everyone for the wonderful birthday wishes!  Rosie is still panting from all the zoomies she and Gizmo were doing the first day.  And we found out that Snoopy is having a birthday this month...  our own Dog Daddy and Jodi, too!

Celebrate Jeffies' Birthday with Monkeys:  Enter Now!
Jeffie's party kicked off with a giveaway for a pair of monkey earrings from For Love of a Dog and a Skinneeez Big Bite water bottle dog toy. There's still time to enter, so visit this blog post and get to work with that Rafflecopter!

Next week's party favors?  A giveway of KONG dog treats!  After all, what would a birthday party be without treats?!

Yesterday we did a taste testing of some dog treats for review and giveaway on the blog.  This was Rosie's 2nd official taste testing.  She knows the drill!  I'm looking forward to sharing the photos because, since it is a birthday party, they're all wearing their party hats.  Some of the photos are blurry because the photographer was laughing so much.  I'm not sure who had too much party punch - the photographer or the dogs!

Jodi asked when exactly is Jeffie's birthday.  Jeffie was born in early March and we adopted him April 28.  Since we don't know the exact date of his birth, we've always celebrated his birthday in April.  BTW, Jeffie was an early Mother's Day gift for me from the Dog Daddy.

      Celebrating Jeffie:  Wordless Wednesday
Time passes in the blink of an eye.  Jeffie puppy cuteness evolved into a sweetheart of 7 years.  Thankfully, I have lots of puppy pictures of Jeffie and I'll be sharing more later this month.  I'm terribly biased, but I think he was adorable and all the blog comments made my day!

And, Jackie, Jeffie mentioned to me something about Rita flirting with him at his party... but that whole tequila thing kinda made him nervous!

      Jeffie Was a Cush Dog
I realize that having two dogs at once (or more) is not doable for some.  It has been for me and, frankly, I don't know what I would have done without my cush dogs.

Bailey writes that they've been thinking about getting a cush dog for their dog.  I recommend it.  Rudy has been Jeffie's cush dog through the loss of Tucker and Lucy last year.

Well, we've had a big week of birthday fun!  Right now Jeffie is napping and resting up for more fun to come!

      Celebrating Jeffie: Wordless Wednesday

Jeffie was a fluffy little Golden Retriever mix baby!

Jeffie with his very own first "monkey."
       My soulful sweet boy.
      Happy Birthday, Jeffie!

Join us all month long as we celebrate Jeffie's 7th birthday with stories, photos, and giveaways!  It just wouldn't be a party without you!

      March Madness: Wordless Wednesday Not

We love March Madness and our boys in blue!

The dog daddy and I are, admittedly, obsessed with the NCAA men's college basketball tournament.  We plan our lives around it.

And, since, we also plan our meals and snacks around it, the dogs enjoy it, too.  Well, not the yelling and cheering.  Jeffie really hates it when we yell at the television.  There was a lot of yelling on Sunday night!

Thought you might enjoy some of the out-takes of our March Madness photo session.

The Dog Daddy thought his favorite team needed some better representation.

      So, he enlisted Rudy's help.

Not to be outdone, I gave a little suggestion to Rosie.

      Rosie had her own ideas!
And, if asked, I'm pretty sure Jeffie and Rudy would agree!

      Adoration: Rudy

      Rosie and Rudy
Did you ever adopt a puppy or dog for your dog?  We did.  Well, sort of.

We'd been talking about adding a puppy or young dog to our family to give Jeffie a partner.  Lucy and Tucker were seniors when we adopted Jeffie.

Poor Jeffie was always the third wheel and odd man out.  Lucy tolerated him; Tucker wasn't much interested in playing with him.

Our pack at that time: Tucker, Rudy, Lucy B, Jeffie
At least that was one of the rationalizations we used when Gary fell in love with Rudy.

      Jeffie and Rudy

Jeffie knew it.  Rudy was his puppy from the get-go.  We were amazed at how Jeffie devoted himself to that puppy.  In fact, Rudy even seemed to feel he belonged to Jeffie.  What a duo.  Jeffie was almost five years old at the time, but he became both a puppy, as well as an older brother to Rudy.

In January, we adopted our girl, Rosie.  She clearly adores all of us, but something special happened with Rudy.

      Rosie
Rudy, the big lug of an overgrown puppy, at age 2 1/2 fell in love.  He is besotted with Rosie, as only an older brother of a baby could be.

We already knew Rudy was a sweetheart, but we didn't know just how sweet.

      Jeffie, Rosie and Rudy

Rowdy Rudy has played so carefully, so tenderly, with this puppy that it is hard to describe.  He began bringing his favorite monkeys (what we call plush toys) to her for Rosie's inspection, approval, and delight.

Rudy brings Kongs and balls to Rosie and rolls them for her.

      Rosie and Rudy
His most prized possession is his Jolly ball.  She was not much bigger than the Jolly ball the first time Rudy brought it to her.  He dangled it in front of her.  He tossed it on the ground before her.  He play bowed.

These days he still is enthralled.  Rosie wins every game.

      Rosie and Rudy

When Rudy comes running to me with his Jolly ball - beside himself with excitement to play - the moment Rosie decides she wants to play, too, the ball is hers.   There's never a moment of keep-away.

      Rudy and Rosie

We have to keep a close eye when treats are given because Rudy will gladly give his up to Rosie.

Rosie wants his food?  Fine by Rudy.

He does all this with such a sense of joy and with such a look of tenderness on his face that he breaks our hearts wide open with love.

      Rudy, big brother extraordinaire!

Redbone Coonhound Jingle Will Steal Your Heart

Meet Jingle, a beautiful Redbone Coonhound dog.

No, you're not going crazy.  No, it's not the first stages of Alzheimer's, nor is it deja vu.  You've seen Jingle before.

In fact, you've seen Jingle twice on this blog.  The first time was in our Q and A interview with Kristi and Glenn Austin about fostering dogs.  The second was in our Follow-up Friday blog post where we gave you an update on Jingle.

Jingle will steal your heart.  She stole mine.

Jingle was found as a stray with her two 8 month old puppies by animal control in Christiansburg, VA.  No one stepped up to claim this little family.  The puppies were adopted, but Jingle remained homeless.

Pulled from the Montgomery County Friends of Animal Care and Control by City Dogs Rescue, thanks to the persuasive efforts of Kristi Austin who volunteered to provide foster care while Jingle was vetted, had surgery and was spayed. Jingle was saved.
Jingle waiting to into the clinic for her vetting.
Jingle is described as "one of the sweetest hounds to come through the shelter (and we see a LOT of hounds!)"

While in foster care with the Austins, Jingle got used to hardwood floors and enjoyed cuddling.
Jingle is 8 years old, a female Redbone Coonhound, and weighs 57 pounds.  She is house broken and crate trained.  Though she is excellent with other dogs, she not fond of cats.  Jingle adores people and does great in the car.

Jingle's tummy is full and the treats keep coming!
Jingle does well on leash and loves to go for walks.  She's playful, submissive, friendly, and shy.  Jingle is a low maintenance dog.

Jingle - on her way to the big city and City Dogs Rescue.
While in foster care with the Austin's, Jingle learned about hardwood floors and became a foster that was very hard to give up.  Kristi says Jingle is the "sweetest girl.  I look over at her and she starts wagging her tail."

Country girl Jingle gets her first look at the big city, Washington, D.C.
Jingle is now living in a foster home in Washington, D. C.   She is available for adoption from City Dogs Rescue.  View her adoption page here - available dogs are listed in alphabetical order; just scroll down to Jingle.  Click on her and you'll see many more photos.

City Dogs Rescue was formed for one reason: to rescue adoptable dogs in overcrowded and high-kill shelters where resources are severely limited.  They offer a lifeline to as many of these pups as possible.  City Dogs Rescue is a network of volunteers who foster dogs with volunteer families and donated boarding facilities.  By finding dogs permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, they enrich the lives of both canine and human.

We always feature an adoptable dog on Sunday at Talking Dogs.  They're all special and they all deserve a loving forever home.  However, today's dog is more special to me.

You see, this dog has captured my heart.  It's one of those inexplicable things that just happens.  Like it or not, I feel a connection with this particular dog.   If our lives were in a different place, there's no doubt in my mind that she'd be joining our family.  Please help me network and share to find Jingle that perfect forever home.
