Celebrity Dachshund Watch: Jennifer Aniston

Okay, so Jennifer Aniston isn't a Dachshund Lover in the sense that she has her own Dachshund dog, but she obviously loves this little red smooth pup.  And who wouldn't?  Via INF Daily:  Imagine this: you’re out for a morning stroll, walking your super cute baby Dachshund. Everything’s normal, sorta quiet, then all of a sudden there’s Jennifer Aniston, and she’s petting your pup. And taking his picture with her iPhone. Bam! Your day just got 90% more interesting than everyone else’s.

Can't argue that.

"Woman Punching Black Bear" Story Goes Viral

The "Woman Punches Bear To Save Dog" story has gone viral - with news agencies all over the world reporting the tale.  Dachshund Lover Brooke Collins, of Juneau, Alaska, has received offers for interviews, appearances, and even a visit to The Late Show With David Letterman.  Excerpt from the Juneau Empire:

Brooke Collins of Juneau made headlines this week after she punched a black bear in her yard to save her dachshund Fudge from the bear’s grip.
Collins’ name has been on newspapers and websites. ABC, MSNBC, Fox News, Huffington Post and NPR are just a few examples. Radio stations from Anchorage, Seattle, Chicago and others have been asking to interview her. Even large metro papers like the Miami Herald and The Washington Post have picked this up.
Besides news sites, several dog-themed websites have been on the story as well.
The next stop could be national television. CBS has contacted Collins about bringing her to New York with Fudge and her boyfriend, Regan O’Toole, who was at the house when the incident took place.
In fact, the network is interested in this story with more than its news shows. “The Late Show with David Letterman” has also contacted Collins. She’s returned the inquiry and is awaiting a response.

We certainly hope she brings her handsome boy 'Fudge' with her!  Read more at the Juneau Empire.

Celebrity Dachshund Watch: Mary-Kate Olsen

Mary-Kate Olsen is spotted walking her dog out in New York City over the 4th of July weekend.

"Celebrity" Dachshund Watch: Snookie vs Nellie!

We first posted photos of everyone's favorite guidette Snookie with a Dachshund puppy a few weeks ago, and our readers, like us, weren't too thrilled thinking that the train wreck known as Snookie could actually properly care for a little furry one - much less a Dachshund.  Stop, take a deep breath, and relax, because the Dachshund in question, 'Nellie,' is owned by a shop keeper in Italy where the new season of Jersey Shore is being filmed.  Shew!  Excerpt from Teddy Hilton:

Snooki's Newest Feud!

We thought the cast of The Jersey Shore was getting along so well with their Italian friends.
But it appears that Nelly, the shop keeper's wiener dog who hangs near where the guidos "work," has started drama with the Shores' smallest cast member.
The dog stole Snooki's Pinocchio doll from inside the O' Vesuvio Pizzeria and chewed it and ran around with it before giving the nose a nibble - and Snooks look purdy pissed!
We hope there is a whole episode dedicated to this in the upcoming season.

We do too.

Gotta admit, this is too cute.

See lots of photos over at Teddy Hilton.

"Celebrity" Dachshund Watch: Snooki And A Dachshund

Snooki enjoys her 14th minute of fame

Thanks so much to Cindy Fuentes for sending in the photos of Snooki with a Dachshund in Italy!  She writes:

Dear Joey and Maggie,

Celebrity Dachshund Watch: Ke$ha Wants You to Name her Dachshund

Who?  We've no idea really.  But a quick look on wikipedia tells us that Ke$ha is an American pop singer-songwriter and rapper. Her debut single "Tik Tok", released in late 2009, reached number one in 11 countries. Her debut album, Animal, was released in January 2010 and debuted at number one in the US, Canada and Greece.   And now she's a Dachshund Lover.  And she needs a name for her girl.  She tweets:

Just got a puppy!!!! First pet ever. She's a wiener dog! So cute. Need a name. A badass name. Help!

And later:

Ok so far down to bacon, iggy, jagger, bowie or roxy (after roxy music)

Ke$ha - our vote is for Roxy - we love that name for Doxies.  Bacon, Iggy, Jagger, and Bowie just aren't dignified enough for a princess like this pup.

Brooke Astor's Beloved Dachshunds Won't Use The Doggy Door

The late Brooke Astor's Dachshunds, 'Girlsie' (left) and 'Boysie,' eat a gourmet meal at the Iris Love residence in Lincoln, Vermont, 2009

Archaeologist and Dachshundist Iris Love was dining with friends including Liz Smith and Helen Gurly Brown on Monday night when the subject of 'Girlsie' and 'Boysie' came up, the Dachshunds who belonged to the late Brooke Astor, and who are in the care of Iris Love.  NYMag reports:

So how aaaare the Astor dachshunds — Boysie and Girlie — these days? Apparently they take after their original owner. "I was with Girlie [should that be Girlsie?] over the weekend," Love said. "She's DIVINE. The only thing is, although I have dog doors all over, Girlie will not go out a dog door. She sits in front of any door and barks for someone to open the door for her, and then she goes outside and plays and does what she wants to." Wait, an Astor wants someone to do things for her?! "She comes back and barks again, because the door has to be opened," Love continued. "I said to someone who didn't believe this, 'The only thing that Girlie would prefer more is that the person who opens the door wears white gloves!'"

Celebrity Dachshund Watch: Kelsey Grammer

Woof Woof Woof!  We had no idea 5-time Emmy Award-winning American actor and comedian Kelsey Grammer was a Dachshund Lover!   The star who worked himself into our hearts playing Frasier Crane has been in the news as of late, with a bitter divorce from wife Camille, and recent wedding to Kayte Walsh.  This marriage will surely last - with a Dachshund involved, right?  Here's the scoop on this photo from The Daily Mail, where Kelsey and his new wife check out a New York apartment:

They celebrated their marriage with a lavish wedding reception at New York City's Plaza Hotel last month.
And now newlyweds Kelsey Grammer and Kayte Walsh are apparently looking to set up home there.
Kelsey, 56 and Kayte, 29 were spotted walking into the Plaza yesterday, where they are said to be viewing one of the apartments.
As well as being a high end hotel, the famed Plaza also offer private residences for sale.
They start at approximately $2 million for a one bedroom residence to duplex and triplex penthouses starting at $15 million.
The couple took along Kelsey's five-year-old son, Jude, from his marriage to Camille Grammer, and their dachshund dog.

Smiles!  A photo from last fall details this cute red smooth pup in one of our awkward growing stages!  If anyone knows the pups' name, or has any more info, by all means leave a comment!

A Night At The Oscars

For all of our Dachshund pals popularly-named 'Oscar,' tonight is your night.  Don't go too crazy when you hear your name again and again during the 83rd Annual Academy Awards!  While we're sure that you produced some Oscar-worthy performances last year, we haven't heard that any Dachshunds are up for an award.
We wanted to profile some of the many Dachshund Lovers who have been nominated or who have won Oscars in the past, but one name shot to the forefront:  Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor, or Liz Taylor, who turns 79 today.  Happy Birthday, and may there be many more.  Well-wishes are sent to Ms. Taylor, who is currently in Cedars-Sinai, hospitalized since earlier this month.  According to People Magazine:  She plans to watch the Academy Awards with family and close friends and will be rooting for The King's Speech.  A proper birthday celebration will be planned for when she returns home."

All About Adele's Louie

Singer Adele speaks candidly to PEOPLEPets about her beloved red smooth Dachshund 'Louie.'  Thank the good lord above she didn't name him Britney!  She says:  Adele, 22, tells PEOPLEPets.com that her first choice for the male pup's moniker was Britney. "He was born on the night I went to see Britney Spears at the O2 in London," she reveals in the clip above. "I almost called him Britney even though he was a boy. [But] it only lasted a few hours until my hangover stopped."
Other options included Aaron Lennon, one of the singer's favorite soccer stars, but once the pooch started howling along to a Louis Armstrong record, Adele knew she had to name him Louie — with an "e." Next year, she plans to get a second dog and name her Ella, after the jazz star Fitzgerald.
Louie, who has lots of four-legged "mates," has had many adventures in his 19 months of life. Recently, he was attacked by a Jack Russell terrier in the park across from Adele's home, and ever since, refuses to revisit the grassy spot. "I bought a house right opposite a park … for him to go for a walk in every day," she laments.

Dachshund Lover Adele's New Album '21' Out Today in America

Adele and her Dachshund 'Louie' via the February 11 issue of Nylon magazine

Hot Hot Hot Soulful songstress and Dachshundist Adele's sophomore album '21' sees its American release today, so if you haven't already gotten your copy, head on out to your local record shop to pick one up!   Released on January 24 in the UK, the album is still Number 1 on the charts there, outselling all the other albums in the Top 10 combined.
Her popularity has pushed her first album, '19' back in to the UK Top 10 as well.  Adele is the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the UK Singles Chart and the UK Album Chart simultaneously since The Beatles in 1964.
Her handsome red smooth 'Louie' has been in the press with his beloved human as well in recent weeks.  Something stinky happened during an interview with the Irish Times:  We are 20 minutes into a right old natter, and Tottenham’s Aretha Franklin is wrinkling up her nose. “I’m so sorry, but the dog has farted.”
Louis Armstrong, Adele Adkins’s petite, tubular dachshund (aka Sausage), is soiling the atmosphere of XL Records’ headquarters in London’s Ladbroke Grove, but the apology is shot through with a bit of a cackle and a carry-on-regardless demeanour. Spend any length of time in the company of Adele and you’ll come to learn pretty damn quick that the classiest singer of her generation has little time for airs and graces.
Adele has even quipped that her third album will be all about Louie.  Via UK's Daily Star:  Having vented her romantic spleen on 19 and 21, Adele is ready to move on to a more positive topic, namely puppy love.
“My dog Louie is the love of my life,” she laughed, referring to her miniature dachshund. “The third album will be all about him I promise.”
Keep up with all things Adele, including her world tour, at her official website.  Did you catch her on David Letterman last night?  Fantastic!

Celebrity Dachshund Watch: Liam Gallagher to Save Sausage Dogs From Extinction

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has vowed to save Dachshunds from extinction.  Huh?  Via UK's The Sun:  The BEADY EYE frontman has leapt to the defence of dachshunds - or sausage dogs as they are better known - after hearing the breed is endangered.
He and NICOLE APPLETON have one of the four-legged friends called Ruby and on a recent trip to Germany Liam said he would be a crusader for their cause.
He ranted: "Extinction of sausage dogs? I will prevent that! When I'm back in England I am gonna buy 900 of them. I am gonna prevent them from downfall."
That's a lot of poo bags on Primrose Hill.

All we can guess is that Liam must have gotten wind of those news stories on the net:  Panic in Germany:  Is the Trusty Dachshund Dying Out?

Dachshunds in Pop Culture: Nico

Continuing on with the Andy Warhol Dachshund association, it's Nico.   Who?  Nico (born Christa Päffgen, 16 October 1938 – 18 July 1988) was a German singer, composer, fashion model, actress, and Dachshundist Warhol Superstar. She is known for both her vocal collaboration on The Velvet Underground's debut album, The Velvet Underground & Nico, and her work as a solo artist from the late 1960s through the early 1980s. She also had roles in several films, including a cameo in Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita (1960) and Andy Warhol's Chelsea Girls (1966), as herself. She was related to Hermann Päffgen, who founded the Päffgen brewery in 1883 in Cologne.  She died in July 1988, as a result of injuries sustained in a bicycling accident.  Source.
Thanks to Susan Sears for sending us a link to the above recently unearthed photo which begs the question:  Did Nico have her own Dachshunds?  Not from what we can tell.  This photo seems to originate from recently available Mark Shaw photos offered for sale at Svenska Möbler.  They elude that the Dachshunds belonged to Parisian interior designer Henry Samuel:

"Nico With Dachshunds"- Mark Shaw Editioned Fashion Photo, France, 1960's

Original Limited Edition Mark Shaw fashion photograph. This is from a never published series taken by Shaw for LIFE magazine. Pictured here is Nico who went on to be the lead chanteuse of "The Velvet Underground" as a young model in Paris. She is posing with a pair of dachshunds in the apartment of legendary Parisian interior designer Henry Samuel. These prints are archivally prepared and stamped and numbered at the Mark Shaw Photographic Archives. Please call us in Los Angeles for details.

Admittedly, we aren't the hugest fans of Nico's voice, but the iconic album The Velvet Underground & Nico wouldn't have been as great without her presence.

August 12, 1937, For Immediate Release:  PORTRAIT OF A LADY:  On the left is the original and on the right the modernistic portrait by Edward Biberman which recently caused great controversy in Hollywood.  It pictures Joan Crawford as an Egyptian goddess, which is the way the artist said he saw her.  The portrait hangs in the drawing room of the star's home, where this picture, with her two prized Dachshunds, Baby and Boopshen, were taken.  Under contract to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, her next picture is soon to be announced.
