Adele Gives Us a Shout Out in Vancouver?

British jazz-blues singer Adele entertains a sold-out audience at the Orpheum Theatre on Tuesday.

Thanks so much to Elizabeth Rosalyn for leaving a comment:  So... Adele just gave a huge shoutout to your blog at her Vancouver concert tonight. :)

Wow - we're so honored - boy do we love Adele.  She's the hottest Dachshundist around - selling over 8 million copies of her latest album?

We're not sure what she said, but The Vancouver Sun notes:

Adele would spend plenty of time chatting up her crowd between songs - talking about her wiener dog, her blog, fans she had met at the airport earlier that day and other lighthearted matters - and having quite a laugh throughout.

If anyone has any more info, please leave a comment!

Read more about Adele and her Dachshund 'Louie' in the archives, check out her official site, and buy her music.  You won't be sorry.  Seriously.

Time Together by Michael Franks: Don't Miss This Song and Video

Who?  Michael Franks is an American smooth jazz singer and songwriter. He has recorded with a variety of well-known artists, such as Patti Austin, Brenda Russell, Art Garfunkel, and David Sanborn. His songs have been recorded by The Manhattan Transfer, Patti Labelle, Carmen McRae, Diana Krall, Shirley Bassey and The Carpenters.  And oh yeah, he's a Dachshund Lover.
We were excited to get a note from Michael's wife, Claudia, announcing Michael's new song Time Together, a piece he wrote about his beloved Dachshund 'Flora,' and the title track off his new album.  Claudia writes:

dear joey and maggie...

we just found your blog and LOVE it!
i thought you might like to see the video that the record company put together for my husband's new cd, "time together".
the title song is for our dachshund flora who passed a year ago.  in every interview he does-people ask about flora and dachshunds.
we rescued her in 1998.  more info on flora is available on my husband's website...michaelfranks.com.  if you click on "flora's page" it has another slide show that we made...and a short little bit on our love story!  she was from a puppy mill in kansas.  we have since rescued 2 more with HUA...certified doxieholics!
love you guys!  you are just gorgeous!
claudia franks

We're honored to share such a fine song and video with incredible lyrics.  Brought us to tears.  The video notes:  The title track from Michael's "Time Together" CD -- a touching tribute to his beloved dog, Flora. He dedicates it to all of you who have lost a much loved companion. Michael is donating the royalties from this song to Hearts United for Animals in Flora's memory.  Produced by Gil Goldstein. Featuring Gil Goldstein and Romero Lubambo.  Video production by Peter Nevill.

There are links to purchase the song and album on itunes, eMusic, and Amazon on youtube.

I'd Never Make It Through Without You Around

Everybody's working for the weekend - or at least hoping to make it through their Friday.  This will certainly help out.  Thanks to an anonymous Dachshund Lover for sending this in - we've never seen it before - an awesome fan-made video for Hey Julie by Fountains of Wayne.  Via youtuber johncarrafa.

You Stole My Heart, But I Love You Anyway

The details are all a bit sordid, but Maggie is still recovering from her recent bout of pancreatitis.  She had a serious relapse yesterday afternoon and spent the night and day at the emergency vet's, but just came home and is doing well - good appetite, no vomiting, got a mostly formed stool.  This is the best she's been all week.
We could talk about ultrasounds, blood work, diet, and med regimens, but we'd really rather just sing - because all she does is wreck our bed, and in the morning kick us in the head.  And that's why we're so glad to have her home.  Thanks again for all the love and support.

Dachshund Lover Adele's New Album '21' Out Today in America

Adele and her Dachshund 'Louie' via the February 11 issue of Nylon magazine

Hot Hot Hot Soulful songstress and Dachshundist Adele's sophomore album '21' sees its American release today, so if you haven't already gotten your copy, head on out to your local record shop to pick one up!   Released on January 24 in the UK, the album is still Number 1 on the charts there, outselling all the other albums in the Top 10 combined.
Her popularity has pushed her first album, '19' back in to the UK Top 10 as well.  Adele is the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the UK Singles Chart and the UK Album Chart simultaneously since The Beatles in 1964.
Her handsome red smooth 'Louie' has been in the press with his beloved human as well in recent weeks.  Something stinky happened during an interview with the Irish Times:  We are 20 minutes into a right old natter, and Tottenham’s Aretha Franklin is wrinkling up her nose. “I’m so sorry, but the dog has farted.”
Louis Armstrong, Adele Adkins’s petite, tubular dachshund (aka Sausage), is soiling the atmosphere of XL Records’ headquarters in London’s Ladbroke Grove, but the apology is shot through with a bit of a cackle and a carry-on-regardless demeanour. Spend any length of time in the company of Adele and you’ll come to learn pretty damn quick that the classiest singer of her generation has little time for airs and graces.
Adele has even quipped that her third album will be all about Louie.  Via UK's Daily Star:  Having vented her romantic spleen on 19 and 21, Adele is ready to move on to a more positive topic, namely puppy love.
“My dog Louie is the love of my life,” she laughed, referring to her miniature dachshund. “The third album will be all about him I promise.”
Keep up with all things Adele, including her world tour, at her official website.  Did you catch her on David Letterman last night?  Fantastic!

Sing, Sing A Song

Santa Maria, California natives 'Gretta,' and her human Genete Bowen auditioned last night in Atlanta, Georgia for Season 6 of the popular television show America's Got Talent.  While we haven't heard the outcome of if they will make it on the show, they got a private audition, which is reserved for acts that the show producers think they will like.  They perform big band and swing songs.  Hope to see this unlikely duo on Season 6!  Read all about them at the Santa Maria Times.

Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear - Just sing, sing a song.

Bojo's Bounce (The Periscope Song)

Thanks so much to Hugh Banks, who hails from Florence, Alabama, for sending in this little ditty - we love to sing!  He writes:

Dear Joey and Maggie,

A couple of weeks ago we had 12 inches where I live in Alabama, which is WAY out of the norm here!!!! Anyhow I wrote this novelty song about little short-legged furry friends havin a hard time in the precipitation.  The dachshund puppy in the video belongs to my son..CUTE as she can be!..
Hope Ya'll get a kick out of it......it is available on Amazon .com.

Bojo's Bounce (The Periscope Song)

I woke up to see a heavy snow...lyin on the lawn
I thought about if it hadnt fell.....where all I would have gone.
White as far as the eye can see ..and I cant head to town..
But what about my fuzzy friends..that live so close to the ground....?

Well I commenced to think it through while Bojo was still asleep...
And, it hit me like an old hambone, that when the snow's this deep..
My vertically – challenged friend's, altitude is so low....
When I let him out to run around, HE CANT SEE where to go....!

Life as we know it's been called off, But we got our milk and bread
And all the stuff I need to do's still runnin 'round in my head.....'
But, at least MY EYES are ABOVE the snow!...It really aint no joke...
If I'z a Yorkie or a Poodle or a Dachshund son,.I'd need a periscope.

They're like submarines out in the yard.....Surfacing for air..
They jump and bounce and tunnel 'round...Wait!..Are they still there?
Until the snow recedes a bit.....It's really hard to say....
Are my little fuzzy buddies here?....Or Have they run away?

Ruler Song: The Riddle of the Dachshund

Science4us.com asks the age-old question:  How can my doggie be so long and also be so short?  It's a paradox, ain't it?

Catching Up With Our Favorite Pop Stars

It's a new year, and if you're in the mood for some new music to get you through the day, you may as well start with pop stars who promote Dachshundism!  Kicking things off, thanks to our pals 'Franny' & 'Nina' for writing in about Edie Brickell's new self-titled LP which was released this Tuesday:

Hi Maggie and Joey!

We wanted to mention that we came across Edie Brickell's new self-titled album which features a cute little Dachshund on the cover.  Doxies are becoming so popular these days :)

'Max' and 'Basil'

Also thanks to Christopher Derer for writing in about Ms. Brickell's new album:

First off, I love your site!! I've been following your blog for a while and I'm always amazed by the quantity and quality of Dachshund material that you present. My wife and I have two smooth wieners in the family, Max and Basil, 11 and 10, respectively.  I hope your Joey is doing okay - thank you for the regular updates on his condition.  Anyway, I was just shopping for music and I came across something that you'll appreciate - it's the cover of Edie Brickell's new CD. Check out her website: Edie Brickell

We can't find that Edie and her husband, legend Paul Simon, have their own Dachshund, but if anyone has any more information, please leave a comment!

Coming January 24th, (in the UK - probably a February US release date) it's the release of Dachshund lover Adele's new album, titled 21.  Thanks to Dax ♥ for letting us know the name of her Dachshund!  She writes:  Adele has got a red mini smooth Dachshund, his name is Louie... Her new single is amazing, the new album will be awesome!   Read about Adele and listen to her new single in Shout Out From Adele.  We've been hearing her great new song all over the place - even at the local grocery store!  We'll try to post another reminder when the new album is released.

And finally, former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood and her husband, NHL player Mike Fisher, have adopted a Dachshund mix from their local shelter:

Underwood told a Seattle radio station that she and her hubby have taken in a new dog as a companion to their chihuahua, Ace, who served as ring bearer at the couple’s wedding last summer.
“Her name is Penny, because she’s copper,” Underwood told radio station KMPS.
“She’s actually a shelter mutt, but she’s at least half Dachshund.”  Source.

Keep up with Carrie at her official website.

Shout Out From Adele

We love moody English pop stars around these parts, and were surprised and honored to find out that singer Adele might like us too - at least she gave us nice linkage on her official website.  Danke Schön!
After a little research, we can't find that she has her own Dachshund, but seems to have a beautiful Bulldog!

UPDATE 11/30 1 PM:  Thanks to Mollie for sniffing out a photo of Adele with her Dachshund!  Like Molly says, this red smooth is tiny and cute!  Photo Source.  By all means, if you have any more info, please leave a comment.

Adele is set to release her second studio album, 21, on 24 January 2011 in the UK and 22 February in the U.S.  'Rolling In The Deep,' seen here, is the first single.  Bark on.  We are a bit mesmerized by her voice.

Adele was the first recipient of the BRIT Awards Critics' Choice and was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2008 in an annual BBC poll of music critics, Sound of 2008. She is a multi-Grammy Awards nominee who has won two awards, Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2009. Source.

Wiener of Love

Sing-a-long!  Kicking off your Friday with a little light-hearted Dachshund humor, it's Wiener of Love by youtuber dartycolthwain who notes: This is a silly a capella song that I made about my dachshund. It's a song with a double entendre that's actually very nice when you're just thinking about dogs, but if your mind's in the gutter it's dirty as hell.

Have an awesome Friday.

Friday Dachshund Singalong: Wenn ich mit meinem Dackel

Thank Dog It's Friday!  We love to sing - in any language - especially songs about Dachshunds!   Here the incomparable AndrĂ© Rieu & the Johann Strauss Orchestra perform with Karl Moik and 'Grizzly' the Dachshund at Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna in July 2006.  Via youtuber MartyMcFly33.

Here are the lyrics very loosely translated:

Have you seen my Dachshund yet?
Seen him yet? No, not yet?
He is clever and he is beautiful,
so very clever, so very beautiful
but only when you see us together
will you understand . . .

When I return with my Dachshund
from Grinzing home, I waddle
then people will say
"just look at that clever beast"
and I'll ask you who do they talk about –
not me? surely not me?

I just couldn't carry my Dachshund,
the short-legged thing
sweet like a bunch of flowers;
because if the pub is open really late
who should take me home?
My Dachshund, my Dachshund,
yes, my Dachshund'll take me home.

Just a little while ago, we went out,
when he had to go, I had to stop
when a Dachshund girl spotted him.
she came over straight away,
buttered him up
and lost her little heart to him .
oh yes, I can understand that . . .

When I return with my Dachshund
from Grinzing home, I waddle
then people will say
"just look at that clever beast"
and I'll ask you who do they talk about –
not me? surely not me?

I just couldn't carry my Dachshund,
the short-legged thing
sweet like a bunch of flowers;
because if the pub is open really late
who should take me home?
My Dachshund, my Dachshund,
yes, my Dachshund'll take me home.

We've been to see his doctor,
my dog and I, wanted to have him
checked out "believe me,
Dachshund is fine and round and really healthy
so I ask him "Dachshund, want a wife?"
and he said "yes, yes, woof, woof"

When I return with my Dachshund
from Grinzing home, I waddle
then people will say
"just look at that clever beast"
and I'll ask you who do they talk about –
not me? surely not me?

I just couldn't carry my Dachshund,
the short-legged thing
sweet like a bunch of flowers;
because if the pub is open really late
who should take me home?
My Dachshund, my Dachshund,
yes, my Dachshund'll take me home.

Ol’ Blue Eyes: The Dachshund Version

Kisses! The 12th annual Dachshund Rescue Reunion was held Saturday on Westport, Connecticut's Jesup Green. All funds raised benefited rescue/adoptions. Competitions included the most senior dog, the best tail wagger, and best kisser. Above, Cristina Sisca of Westport shows some love to 2-year-old Frank Sinatra, so named for his blue eyes. Photo:  Lynn U. Miller for WestportNow.com.

See lots more photos, and read even more about the event, sponsored by Connecticut Dachshund Rescue, in a great little article at Westport News.

Mr. Sinatra at his very best.

Little Rudy

The apple doesn't fall from the tree, as they say.  We'd be remiss if we didn't post this new video of our dad's only nephew, Josh, singing a song he wrote about his Dachshund, our country cousin, red piebald 'Rudy!'  Sweet!
Keep up with Josh and his band Maybe Later at MySpace.  Liven up yourself!
