Here we give you some tips to avoid risks and preventive health care for puppies - Keeping your little rascal is healthy!

Before feeding the puppy

If a puppy at the age of about eight weeks to move in with his new family, can definitely be compared with a toddler. Without awareness of hazards, curious and clumsy he lumbers from one adventure to another. Outlets, indoor plants, wool ball, power cable - everything can be a danger to him. Before the puppy arrives, you make it so the way it is recommended to parents of small children. Go on all fours, you crawl from every square foot apartment and look out for anything that might jeopardize the four-legged explorer. You will be amazed how many hazards you will find! Despite this precaution, do not let puppies during the first weeks unattended.

The first visit to the vet

After a short adjustment period, you should consult with your new family member to the vet. He will determine the health of the dog and child puts you set a specific timetable for the necessary vaccinations and deworming. Puppies that come from good attitude, are usually already been vaccinated for the first time against parvo (P), distemper (S), infectious hepatitis (H) and leptospirosis (L). If so, should be in the tenth week again SHPL vaccinated against rabies and also (T). It is recommended six months later to vaccinate against SHPLT again, to be sure that the vaccine is effective.
Free parasites before the primary vaccination

Before receiving a vaccination should a puppy be reasonably free from parasites. For parasites, particularly worms, can affect the effectiveness of vaccination. It must be assumed that every puppy is at least afflicted with roundworms, because the larvae of this worm species are transferred into milk. Due to the life cycle of these parasites is not enough worming. As the worms reside in different stages of development in different regions of the body and organs, only the parasites that reside in the gut actually achieved by an anthelmintic. This means that puppies must be wormed regularly to safely kill all worm generations.
Health Education

Many dogs can be reluctant to touch the muzzle, ears and paws. Some animals even react aggressively and can only be examined sedatives or muzzled. That means for dog owner and veterinarian stress. From the beginning, you should accustom your puppy to touch on all parts of the body. He should learn that people are touched by pleasant. Several times a day, you should look him in the ears, lift the lips to touch the gums, examine the paws, etc. Reward him when he keeps silent. It is recommended that the puppy loving and gentle, but consistently get used to brushing your teeth - that spared him any painful dental problems and your vet bills.

Cute Dachshund Puppy Destroys Home

Poor Lucy....Dad may seem a little rough on the little girl, but boy did she make a mess!  An unlisted video via youtuber BusterBay, who notes:  Yes this cute 8 month old Dachshund Puppy decided to do some redecoration. Within just a few short hours she pulled a 5 gallon bucket of dog food thru the house and ate her dog bed.

Celebrity Dachshund Watch: Jennifer Aniston

Okay, so Jennifer Aniston isn't a Dachshund Lover in the sense that she has her own Dachshund dog, but she obviously loves this little red smooth pup.  And who wouldn't?  Via INF Daily:  Imagine this: you’re out for a morning stroll, walking your super cute baby Dachshund. Everything’s normal, sorta quiet, then all of a sudden there’s Jennifer Aniston, and she’s petting your pup. And taking his picture with her iPhone. Bam! Your day just got 90% more interesting than everyone else’s.

Dozens of dogs and even a few cats came out yesterday to the parking lot of Seton Catholic Central High School in Binghamton, New York, for a pet blessing in honor of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi.   Included in the pack was 8-week-old 'Oscar,' pictured above.  Excerpt from Press Connects:

The few dozen pet owners in attendance nodded in agreement when Father Amrhein talked about the importance of companionship and how much joy dogs and cats can bring into the lives of people. While there are medications people can take for most ailments, he said, there are things drugs cannot treat, but animals can.

"There's no real prescription for loneliness," Amrhein said.

Joe Becker of Johnson City knew just what the priest meant; his wife died in February. Becker brought his new friend, Oscar, to the blessing. An 8-week-old dachshund, Oscar has brought much happiness and plenty of energy into his house, Becker said. The impulse to bring Oscar into his family was just too great.

"I couldn't resist it," he said.

Live! Truffles And Her One-Day-Old Puppies

Awwww.  Pretty little 'Truffles' is a chocolate long-hair that came into Midwest Dachshund Rescue already pregnant. She had her pups yesterday, 7/18/11 and we have: Harry Potter--Black and Tan male with a white streak--7.7 ounces, Ron Weasley--Chocolate male--7.0 ounces, Hermoine Granger--Chocolate female--7.5 ounces. Truffles nor her pups are available yet, but MWDR has many more doxies, including pups, ready for adoption at http://www.mwdr.org/.

"Celebrity" Dachshund Watch: Snookie vs Nellie!

We first posted photos of everyone's favorite guidette Snookie with a Dachshund puppy a few weeks ago, and our readers, like us, weren't too thrilled thinking that the train wreck known as Snookie could actually properly care for a little furry one - much less a Dachshund.  Stop, take a deep breath, and relax, because the Dachshund in question, 'Nellie,' is owned by a shop keeper in Italy where the new season of Jersey Shore is being filmed.  Shew!  Excerpt from Teddy Hilton:

Snooki's Newest Feud!

We thought the cast of The Jersey Shore was getting along so well with their Italian friends.

But it appears that Nelly, the shop keeper's wiener dog who hangs near where the guidos "work," has started drama with the Shores' smallest cast member.

The dog stole Snooki's Pinocchio doll from inside the O' Vesuvio Pizzeria and chewed it and ran around with it before giving the nose a nibble - and Snooks look purdy pissed!

We hope there is a whole episode dedicated to this in the upcoming season.

We do too.

Meet Daisy Stephanopoulos

Did someone say Dachshund Lover?  When last we mentioned George Stephanopoulos, he was grieving the loss of his beloved Dachshund 'Gilbert.'  Yesterday the television journalist and former political adviser debuted the newest 4-legged addition to his family on ABC's Good Morning America.  Was it a Dachshund?  You betcha!  Meet 'Daisy,' the beautiful red smooth Dachshund puppy whom the Stephanopoulos family rescued from the local Humane Society!  Daisy joins the other 4-legged member of the family, 'Charlie,' a Dachshund-Jack Russel mix. 
In this video, Daisy attempts to pick the winner of the World Cup.  How will she fare?  We've got a feeling that she was thinking "If it's not Germany, why even bother?!"

Those Special Dachshunds: Meet Toby!

Thanks so much to Stacey Lean for writing in to introduce us to her newest bundle of joy, 'Toby!'  This really makes our day.  Without any further ado.....

Dear Joey and Maggie,

We just wanted to write and say how much we enjoy your blog and introduce you to one of your new readers! Last week my fiance and I brought Toby, a 14 week old male long haired Dachshund, into our family. Two years ago, the Dachshund I had grown up with passed away. Her name was Minnie and she was 17 years old. We have missed her greatly, but now thanks to Toby we are once again feeling the joys of having a special Dachshund in our lives!

When Toby was a baby and still with the breeder, he was out in the backyard and was bitten on the face by a copperhead snake! He made a miraculous recovery and is doing great now, with nothing to show for it but a scar of bravery on the right side of his muzzle.

Attached is a picture of Toby in his makeshift bed at our garage sale yesterday. We were trying to sell that strange pillow with the feathers on it, but Toby repeatedly stole it from the garage sale and dragged it off to his bed to sleep with it. We have no idea why he likes it so much, but we ended up letting him keep it.
