Thanks so much to Derek Prowse for sending in this video of his beloved 'Tater' enjoying the sand and surf.  He writes:  Tater and I live on the west end of Panama City Beach, Florida, and in this video, we kayaked over to Camp Helen State Park on a lovely calm day on the gulf.  When we got there, he found some buried treasure (a dead seabird), rolled in it, and went along his way back home for some serious napping.

The Pampered Pooch package entails wrought-iron pet beds, 22-karat gold plated ID tags and home-baked dog treats.  And when water is pouring down from the sky, both pet and owner can borrow Burberry raincoats.   Aaahhh.  Just what every Dachshund deserves.  Read all about these fine pet-friendly hotels and watch a nice video at the Today show.

Our friend 'Geneva' is one lucky dog.  From getting to ride around on backhoes to celebrating her 15th birthday at the beach on Cape Cod, this girl does it all.  She writes:

Hi Joey and Maggie,

Speaking of "summer fun" my favorite thing to do on a hot day is go for a ride in the kayak. I start whimpering as soon as I see the equipment come out. I always stand right in the bow, to help with navigation. The life jacket can get a little hot, but Mom always says "safety first!"

Spring has finally sprung - we weren't so sure it was going to make it this year!  Now's the time to set aside a cool morning to take your pals on a long nature walk - just you and your dogs.  Chester and Gretel are sure having fun here at the Spruce Railroad Trail on the shores of Lake Crescent, about 20 miles west of Port Angeles, Washington.  Good exercise like hiking strengthens your Dachshund's backs, gives humans peace of mind, and is a great bonding experience with your furry friends. We can count on our left paw the number of times we've featured any Dachshunds from Italy here on The Long and Short of it All, and that really needs to change.  Let's see, there was Dachshunds Around the Globe back in 2008,  Dachshunds supporting Italy in World Cup Dachshunds back in 2010, and of course Italian Dachshund Fashion with the Harmont & Blaine posts. 
But this is the first time we've seen such a nice film of Italian Dachshunds in action, and the setting is as idyllic as expected, coming from the Comune di Rovereto, a city located in the Vallagarina valley of the Adige River.  Watch with your Dachshunds.

Dachshund Relaxation: Piebed

A bed fit for a Piebald

We can't thank our MidWest Dachshund Rescue friend Alison enough for surprising your Long and Short of it All host 'Joey' with this new bed to help in his recovery after surgery.  He LOVES it.  Joey was so excited when Dad removed it from the packaging, and it complements his piebaldism perfectly.  He rolled around in it immediately, tail wagging at full speed.  "It's a big giant ME!," he must have thought.  Alison made this herself!

Joey continues to recover well after his long ordeal.  He's still getting adjusted on his medications for Addison's Disease.  The daily prednisone he takes is causing him to drink and pee a lot, but we're hoping to reduce his dose some to alleviate this.  He had electrolytes drawn last Saturday to check and make sure they are OK, as his monthly DOCP injections control them.  They are looking good, but he is probably going to need a dose reduction of his DOCP as well.  Otherwise, he is a happy, hungry, and active little guy.  We're so thankful.
