Who's Your Best Man? Who's Your Maid Of Honor?

Ringbearer Alex DeSmith (left) holds Buzz and Molly during the wedding Saturday of Teresa Ruckelshausen and John Hurney at Prairie Hills Covenant Church in Sioux Falls, SD. The Dachshunds served as maid of honor and best man. Photos by jay pickthorn / argus leader

We've heard of Dachshunds taking part in wedding ceremonies before, but we gotta admit, we've never heard of a Dachshund duo who were Best Man and Maid of Honor!  Thanks so much to our pals 'Oscar' and 'Hans' for sending in the link!  They write:

Hi Joey and Maggie!

We hope you have been able to stay COOL these last few days! We are a couple of hot dogs!
Maggie, we have been following your health issues and are WOOF-ingly glad that you are doing better.
Anyway, we wanted to send you this article from the Sioux Falls, SD, newspaper. Last year when Mom and Dad got married we thought we would get to play a starring role, but we ended up spending the weekend at the doggie spa. Oh well. We probably would have had to argue over which one of us was to be "best dog" and which one had to wear the Maid of Honor dress!

Stay long and awesome.

The Argus Leader goes on to note:

The bride looked nervous.
The groom blinked back tears of joy.
The maid of honor and best man wagged their tails.
And whined a bit.
And the maid of honor emitted one sharp yip when it seemed as if no one was ever going to pay attention to her.
Yes, Saturday's wedding between Teresa Ruckelshausen and John Hurney was a bit untraditional.
Teresa and John knew from the start of their engagement that Teresa's dogs Buzz and Molly would be their attendants.
After all, the dachshunds had given their approval to John the minute they met.
"They liked him, so that tells you something," says Teresa, an MRI/CT technician with Sanford Health. "You listen to what your dogs tell you."

Read all about the wedding and see more pics at The Argus Leader.

Dachshund Fashion: "Come Play With Me" Pumps

We can almost hear all the ladies gasping with delight as they set their eyes on these hot shoes for the first time - it's too bad they're just a prototype and don't seem to be available for purchase - yet, at least.  Thanks to our friend Penelope at Penny Romance for sending in the link to them at Kobi Levi Footwear Design where many of the commenters think that they are "kitty" shoes instead.
Either way, like Penelope commented:  Of course, it would suck to pay out the wazoo for these babies, and then have a wayward weenie dog chew the crap out of them.

Dachshunds Make The Best Accessories

Thanks so much to Kimberley Nicholson and her beloved black and tan 'Oscar' for sending in these great photos of some good-looking Dachshunds around town!  They write:

Dear Joey and Maggie,

I love reading your blog! It's my go-to website for a smile. I love reading stories of Dachshunds from all over.

I thought you might like the attached photos I took at my local mall. It's always good to dress fashionably, and I'm sure you'll agree - you'll be a big winner with a coordinated Doxie at your side!

My black and tan Oscar sends some puppy love to you both. We're hoping you guys feel better soon!

Those Special Dachshunds: Meet Chili!

Your 'Long and Short of it All' host 'Joey' is restraining himself from letting out a "woof!" after getting such nice photos in his inbox; that would be rude, wouldn't it?   Thanks so much to Brittany Dunlop for writing in about her handsome beloved red smooth rescue 'Chili.'  She writes:

Dear Joey and Maggie,

Three years ago, Chili came into Dachshund Rescue of North America foster care grossly overweight and with a series of other issues. I volunteer with DRNA and ended up adopting Chili after fostering him for a few months. About 6 months later, a disc in his back ruptured and I was told he would never walk again. Together, Chili and I worked hard and on his post-op exercises to prove the probability wrong. The recovery was intense, but with the help of so many people in the NYC community (including his daycare, Paws in Chelsea, to his incredible veterinarians at West Chelsea Animal Hospital) he began to move those little legs!2 Years later, Chili is now up and RUNNING on all fours. He is a true inspiration to all handicapped dogs and their owners. I NEVER gave up on him and in turn, he only gets stronger every day. Fashion photographer Justin Clynes took these photos of Chili and me on his 9th birthday to celebrate Chili’s great journey and the bond between us.

We're so glad to hear that Chili is doing so great after his bout with IVDD.  Hope he had a well-deserved grand birthday celebration.

Joey can't stand it anymore.  Woof, WOOF, WOOF!!!  If only for Chili's inspirational tale!

Celebrity Dachshund Watch: Zac Posen

Who?  Zac Posen is an American fashion designer.  According to PupStyle, he was recently spotted on the streets of New York with a poodle and his longhair dappled black and tan Dachshund.  High style, indeed!  The article goes on to note how fashionable it is to tie a scarf to your leash, but they are withholding any comments on his "man-heels."
Thanks so much to Jean Siska, human to 'Fiona' and 'Max' for writing in with the link and photos.

Dachshunds never go out of style
