New York's Twentieth Annual Dachshund Octoberfest

Congratulations to New York's Dachshund Friendship Club for hosting their 20th Annual Dachshund Octoberfest on Saturday in Washington Square Park in New York City.  This bi-annual meetup is an Institution in Dachshund Meetups, of which Dachshund meetups all over the country and world are modeled after and compared to.  It has brought some of the best photos and videos of Dachshund gatherings on the net.  Excerpt from Washington Square News:

"We do it twice a year as a social gathering for owners and dogs to interact and also see all the different varieties of dachshund, such as wire, smooth and long-haired," said Adrian Milton, who manages the event as part of the Dachshund Friendship Club.
At 1 p.m., the group joined together to sing "Dachs Song" by Paul de Vries, a song that encompasses all things loved by dachshund owners. The final lines read "Dachsie, meine dachsie, the best canine under the sun, called 'wiener' or 'sausage' or 'hot dog,' we know that you're number one."

Read more and see more photos at the Washington Square News.  And let's give that "Dachs Song" another listen, along with some scenes from the 2008 Octoberfest:

Urban Dachshund Toronto @ Woofstock 2010

Woofstock, the "largest outdoor festival for dogs in all of North America," took place in Toronto, Canada, over the weekend, and the Urban Dachshund Toronto Meetup Group made sure that Dachshunds were well represented.  Apparently some 300,000 dog lovers and their canine pals attend this free annual event.  That's a lot of butts to sniff!  Enjoy the fun video by urbandachshund.

Photos: MidWest Dachshund Rescue Cross Town Bark Around Fundraiser

We had a great time yesterday at MidWest Dachshund Rescue's Annual Cross Town Bark Around Fundraiser at The Dog Spot in Downers Grove, Illinois.  There were several hundred Dachshunds in attendance!  There were free hot dogs, a costume contest with great prizes, like restaurant gift certificates, a silent auction, which included nice hand-made dog beds, Dachshund throws, pillows, Cubs and Sox jackets, a $300 basket of booze(!) and at least a hundred raffles including mp3 players, tickets to Cubs and Sox games, restaurant gift certificates, goodie baskets, theatre and opera tickets, a laptop computer, hotel stays, Disney tickets, handmade Dachshund quilts, the list goes on and on.  If you live in the MidWest and couldn't make this year's event, don't miss it next year!
Thanks to MWDR for such a great time.  Hoping lots of money was raised to help Dachshunds in need.

That first photo of Maggie was our favorite of the day.  Dad was taking a photo of the Dachshunds in the background when Maggie sat up in the middle of the photo - she's a Dachshund photo CRASHER!

Dachshunds Don The Green And Raise Money For Dodgerslist

Handsome boy 'Kirby' is proud to be Irish for a day

Dachshunds and their humans got together on Sunday in Libertyville, Illinois, to celebrate St. Pat's Day and to raise money for a great cause:  Dodgerslist:  Your disc disease (IVDD) Resource.  The annual Luck of the Irish Dachshund Get Together was sponsored by The Suburban Chicagoland Dachshund Lovers.  Wish we could have been 2 places at once 'cause we were already partying with the Urban Chicago Dachshund Lovers.
See more pics from the Dodgerslist fundraiser at Trib Local.
Thanks to our pals 'Kirby' and 'Wally' for sending in the link!

South Beach Dachshund Winterfest 2010

Behold The Badger

Hundreds of dachshunds and their humans descended on Miami Beach, Florida on Saturday, January 23, 2010 for the 8th Annual South Beach Dachshund Winterfest!  We've been patiently waiting to see the photos, and they were finally posted yesterday on the official site.  Don't even think about missing them!  Looks like all the Dachshunds enjoyed the warm weather.  We're jealous.
