Oran - Adoptable Senior Black Lab Mix at Stray Rescue of St Louis

 Oran is 12 1/2 year old, male black Lab mixed breed dogs available for adoption from Stray Rescue of St Louis.  According to shelter staff:

Oran is one of the most loved dogs ever rescued.  He's quite the character.  Very sweet and friendly.  He loves to do for long, leisurely strolls and is a perfect gentleman on a leash.  He would do best in a home where he is the only pet unless it is a dog like his girlfriend, Josephine.

Oran is eligible for Stray Rescue's Seniors For Seniors program. Senior citizens (preferably, but not limited to, those on a fixed income) who adopt an older dog are able to do so without paying the adoption fee.  If necessary, Stray Rescue will provide food and medical care for the life of the dog.

Josephine - Adoptable Senior Shepherd Dog at Stray Rescue of St Louis

 Josephine is a 9 1/2 year old female Shepherd mixed breed dog.  Here's what Stray Rescue shelter staff has to say:

Josephine is one of the sweetest dogs we've ever rescued.  She was found in a horrible area of town with her 3 little puppies.  She had a makeshift home for them underneath a dilapidated house.  She did a wonderful job keeping them safe and healthy. 

Josephine's puppies have already gone to their forever homes, but Josephine is still waiting.

She was a very, very sick girl and under strict orders from the vet that she was not to exert herself in any way.  It was touch and go for a few months, but now she is the picture of health.  She still has a slight cough that she'll probably alwasy have.  This is due to scarring of her trachea.  Since this is a pre-existing condition, Stray Rescue will cover the cost of her medicine.  It's just a pill she takes twice a day.  Put it in some braunschweiger and she'll gobble it right out of your hand.

She has the cutest little nub for a tail.  We've never seen it stop wagging.  You can even bring her home for a few days to see for yourself that she'll fit in perfectly at your house.  Just be prepared for lots of kisses.

Bark in the Park - Largest Midwest Dog Festival

Join the Humane Society of Missouri at Bark in the Park - presented by Purina ONE on Saturday, May 18, 2013.  This years' fun includes a 5k run, the 1-mile Walk for Animals and a pancake breakfast.

Bark in the Park is the largest dog walk and festival in the Midwest!  There are lots of activities for you and your dog to enjoy.  Dogs are welcome to attend as long as their vaccinations are up to date.

This year's Bark in the Park mascot is very special to the Humane Society of Missouri.  Trooper's story made international headlines after he was dragged behind a truck for more than a mile.  His survival was nothing short of a miracle and his recovery has touched millions.

Trooper is currently in foster care with the Humane Society of Missouri.  He'll be leading the Walk for Animals, along with many other rescue pets.  Be sure to stop by his tent to get a photo and pawtograph.

Adoptable Dog Boogie Pilgrim Has Personality to Spare

You really do need a fun loving, car riding, grass rolling guy in your life, right?

Boogie Pilgrim is all that and more!

For starters, he is one handsome dude of a dog.  A beautiful white with some black beauty marks, Boogie Pilgrim is a 45 pound, one year old, Pitbull Terrier mix.  He is working on his house manners and is learning basic training commands.

Is there a Doctor in the house?  As a matter of fact, there is!   

Hi everyone, my name is Dr. Joyce Brothers, also known as JOY to those who know and love me.  That�s because I am pure Joy�the happiest girl in the world.  

I am somewhat of a celebrity at Stray Rescue.  I have charmed the socks off of all their volunteers.  They spoil me rotten, but what I would really love is a chance at a forever home because I have been living at SR for quite a while.

Some things I love are car rides, playing Frisbee (see my link, I am an expert) having lunch at an outdoor caf�, milkshakes at Crown Candy Kitchen, kids, walks in the park, and hiking in the woods.  I am a very experienced hiker.  

Lately I have been lucky enough to spend a day or two each week with a volunteer at his office.  I am an official mascot of a company!   I attend meetings and hang out with the gang during lunch.  I am constantly honing my training skills too.  I can sit, wait, give my paw, and my leash walking skills are just about perfect.

Adopt Aphrodite a Doberman Pinscher Dog

Looking for love?  Here she is!  Her name is Aphrodite and she's a young Doberman Pinscher mix dog.  Just look at that face and tell me you don't see love.

According to the Doberman Pinscher Club of America, the Doberman Pinscher is breathtakingly perceptive, intuitive, and sensitive. Dobermans are nice-named "Velcro dogs" because they stick to their people.  They also suggest that the Doberman dog breed is not for everyone.  Dobies need a calm, stable, firm leader or they may assume that role for you.

Adopt Boogy Woofy a Pit Bull Terrier Dog

Dogs Cats Horses Rescued in Galena Missouri

 The Animal Cruelty Task Force of the Humane Society of Missouri says they'll be recommending animal abuse charges for a Galina, Missouri animal owner.  

On October 16, 2012, they worked in cooperation with the Stone County (MO) Sheriff's Office to rescue 10 horse, 15 dogs, 5 cats, a chicken and a duck from a property west of Galena, Missouri in Stone County.

Humane Society Animal Cruelty Investigators and Stone County Sheriff's Department detectives had been working for several months with the owner of the animals to encourage proper care for the animals.  With little to no improvement made, the sheriff's office determined that a warrant should be obtained to inspect the property with the possibility of removing animals at risk.

At least seven of the horses are severely underweight and have had little access to food, fresh water, adequate pasture or veterinary care.  One horse was more than 600 pounds underweight and so weak he could barely get on and off the trailer.

The cats appear thin and many of the dogs were tethered outside with little to no access to adequate food or clean water.  Two recently deceased horses and a recently deceased dog also were found on the property.  The live animals were removed at the recommendation of a veterinarian for the Missouri Department of Agriculture.

According to Kathy Warnick, President of the Humane Society of Missouri:

Life for Sid, a 4-year-old West Highland Terrier mix, has been anything but easy. Our Animal Cruelty Task Force found him living in filth -- the floors covered with trash, animal waste and grime. Fleas crawled all over him, and so much of his hair was missing that it was difficult to determine his breed. We watched as he paced around the room, scratching his poor body against walls, couches, recliners; whatever was available that might provide a little relief.

Sid was in terrible shape. Neglected. Underfed. Without proper veterinary care. And he wasn't alone.

Walking through the rest of the house, we discovered a Bassett Hound whose nails were so long they had grown into his paw. And it was Sid who alerted us to a third dog, and the biggest heartbreak of the rescue. There in the bathroom lay a Beagle. Sid stood beside his friend and desperately tried to nudge him awake. But it was too late. The Beagle had died from heinous abuse and neglect. It was a heart-wrenching sight, and one we won't soon forget.

Today the rescued dogs are receiving care at the Humane Society of Missouri. Sid is suffering from sarcoptic mange, fleas, a double ear infection and he has a heart murmur. Our expert veterinary and shelter staff are doing everything they can, but his recovery will require weeks upon months of care.

The rescued horses, duck and chicken were transported o the Humane Society of Missouri's Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Union, MO.  The rescued dogs and cats were taken to the Humane Society of Missouri Headquarters in St Louis, MO.

A disposition hearing to determine custody of the animals is scheduled for later this month in Galena, MO.  If custody is awarded to the Humane Society of Missouri, as many of the animals as possible will be made available for adoption.

Pit Bull Terrier, Ella, is Looking for Love: Adopt a Dog

Starving Horses, Dogs, Goats, Rabbits Rescued in Missouri

The Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force was stunned by the condition of the animals they rescued recently.  

It seemed as though desperate, emaciated animals were everywhere on the property just north of Vienna, Missouri.  for some, it was already too late.  Multiple horses and other animals had already died from neglect.

Working in cooperation with the Maries County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA), they rescued 40 dogs, rabbits, horses and goats.  Many of the animals are severely underweight and have had little access to food, fresh water, adequate shelter or veterinary care.  The water available to the dogs was contaminated with urine and feces.  A recently deceased horse and multiple carcasses were found on the property.  The animals were removed at the recommendation of a veterinarian for the MDA.

Mango, a white mare, was so thin every rib and hip bone can be seen.  Her sunken body was covered in rain rot, a skin infection that had become severe from lack of veterinary care.  And she wasn't alone.  She had a foal who was also starving to death.  Too malnourished to produce milk, Mango was unable to care for her baby.  

Mango and foal, along with the other rescued horses and goats were transported to the Humane Society of Missouri's Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Union, MO.  There they are receiving emergency veterinary care.

The rescued rabbits and dogs, which include adult and newborn Beagles, Terriers, and Great Pyrenees have been taken to the HSMO headquarters in St Louis City.  They are being treated for parasites, eye infections, and malnutrition.  

If custody is awarded to the HSMO, as many of these animals as possible will be made available for adoption. A disposition hearing is scheduled for October 2 in Vienna, MO.  The HSMO will be recommending animal abuse charges in this case.

Lab Puppy Teddy is Looking for Love
