Did You Get Taken To Work?

Last Friday was the 13th Annual Take Your Dog To Work Day, as established by Pet Sitters International to celebrate what great companions dogs make.  Handsome 'Hans,' seen here, was one of the the lucky Dachshunds who got to go to work with his Dad, Gerald Schulz of Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
Like all good Dads, we see that Mr. Schulz has a Dachshund calendar on his wall to remind him of his Hans on all those other days when he's sitting at home, just waiting for his Dad's return from work.  Source.

Executive Dachshund

Having evolved from hunting badgers to best friend and companion, 2010 finds the lovable Dachshund entering the workforce so their lazy humans can stay home and play on facebook all day.  Above, 5-year-old 'Trot' sets up shop behind a desk at McNamara Financial Services in Marshfield, Massachusetts.

Those Special Dachshunds: Meet Roxie, Security Doxie

Ain't nothin' gonna get past a Dachshund, much less a beautiful gal on the job like red smooth 'Roxie,' "Security Doxie."  Thanks so much to Roxie for writing in!  She writes:

Hi Joey and Maggie!

My mom LOVES your site! She goes to it everyday to see all of the Doxie posts, and, we were all worried about you, Joey, but really glad to hear you are on the mend! a bow-wow to that.

I was lucky to go to work with her recently. Isn't it nice that her work has a "Doggie Day"? Well, this was my turn to get to go with her (yea!). My brother, Coco Beane got to stay at home and snooze. Anyways, she had to do some makeup styling for a video shoot at work so I got to tag along with her. Boy, she kept telling me what a good girl I was being and I was. Between takes, she had to sit in one of the shots so the guys could adjust the lighting, well, before you knew it, I was in her lap and then posing for the camera! She works in the creative department and one of her friends put me in a special ad just for me. I also forgot to tell you, she works for a video security company so I guess you could say that I was Top Security Dog for the day!

love,
Roxie Lou, Coco Beane & Auntie Annie Em (mom)

We can't quit smiling.

Holy Moly - Bubba Sets Another Mole-Hunting Record!

Our favorite mole exterminator, 'Bubba,' who hails from Fremont, Nebraska, is still on the case - perfecting his craft to break his own record year after year.  Now at 11-years-old, it's obvious that age is not slowing him down - he's killed 89 moles this year!  Excerpt from the Fremont Tribune:

Another year, another record for Bubba.
Bubba, a miniature dachshund owned by Dale and Betty Reandeau, has killed 89 moles so far this year at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont, one more than his previous high of 88 set last year.
"He's trying to keep the mole population down," Dale Reandeau said.
Bubba is going to the cemetery twice a day for walks - and a little mole hunting.
"He's a big hunter," Reandeau said.
Bubba's work helps keep the cemetery grounds looking nicer since moles kill grass and make the ground lumpy.
Bubba has even branched his service out to other areas. Reandeau said Bubba is taking his mole-hunting skills to Davenport Park.

The Working Dog: Diggy The Coolest Hunting Little Dachshund

Thank Dog It's Friday, and in honor of our four-legged friends who actually work for their supper, meet 'Diggy,' the hunting Dachshund.  Too bad about some of the expletives in the video, and it might be a little squeamish for some folks, but this is what hound dogs do afterall.
Via youtuber Birdsfearme, who notes:  This is Diggy a Red Short Hair Dachshund hunting Chukar on EGA a private game bird perserve in Southern Californis on March 2010. Diggy was discovered at the local feed store and was to be a house dog for Andies wife the care taker of EGA but after hanging out with Andy he picked up the hunting skills of his working dogs and soon became more skilled than the other dogs that Andy start letting Diggy do the heavy lifting. Now if he could only retrieve waterfowl!!!

Wirehair Wednesday: Nine Puppies Born-To-Track

If you can stand seeing anything so cute, get ready to meet 'Keena' and her 9 (NINE!) little puppies, which were born last Saturday.  Thanks so much to Jean Siska for sending in the link.  She writes:

Dear Joey and Maggie,

There’s a new batch of pups to follow at born-to-track puppies.

Their one day old video is up now! Too cute!

Field and Stream Dachshund

We got ourselves a Huntin' Dog!  This is smooth chocolate dappled 'Dexter.'  He was just featured in a photo caption contest by a blogger over at Field and Stream, "the world's leading outdoor website."  Here's an excerpt:

It’s time to announce the winner of our latest caption contest, and what a contest it was. First off, many thanks to Dexter the Dachshund for actually retrieving the bumper [retrieving training tool] during our quasi-photo shoot. Who would have thought?
And big thumbs up to the gang at Zink Calls for our prize: a great Power Hen 2 duck call ($125).

The winning caption was Dotcomaphobe. Drum roll, please…
Oh, yeah? I've seen you shoot. If you can call yourself a hunter, I can call myself a gun dog.

Meet Carmen: One Hot Dachshund

Congratulations to this little 3-year-old wirehaired beauty known as 'Carmen,' and her human John Merriman, of Ocean Grove, New Jersey.  Last week, Carmen took the top field trial title in the nation for the second straight year at the Buckeye US/Canadian National Field Trial in Chico, California.  Excerpt from NJ.com:

Besides amassing tons of titles, the 3-year-old has her own followers in the Dachshund Club of America newsletter, where she has an advice column. Carmen’s owner is also a writer, appearing in several books, including "Dogs ‘n Stuff" by J. Francis Bradley. His story of "The Little Red Ball," appearing in "Dachshund, a Smart Owner’s Guide" by Ingrid Schwartz, has been widely circulated and is about Merriman’s special relationships with friends and their dogs. It should be read with tissues handy.
Carmen is a "dual champion," having won conformation titles at Westminster and the National Dog Show. She’s already collared more than 20 major titles in her three short years. This is one "hot dog."

Digby Goes Quail Hunting

Meet 'Digby,' the handsome red smooth working Dachshund who hails near Hesperia, California.  Digby is seen here retrieving a quail on Tuesday.  One hunter blogged about his hunting day, and notes about our hero:  The surprise guest was Digby, the mighty Dachshund that belongs to the club manager. He is a fierce hunter and determined retriever. The quail is about 1/4 his size. He even tries to drag pheasants in too. All heart!  If you enjoy hunting, read more at the Star Tribune.
