Those Special Dachshunds: Meet Peni and Beau!

Thank Dog It's Friday.  If you're looking for smiles, you've come to the right place!  Thanks so much to Ron and Raecheal Todd of Virginia Beach, VA, for sending in this funny little slideshow of their funny little Dachsies, 'Peni' and 'Beau!'  They write:

Hi Joey and Maggie,

I love your blog- we read it every day and it is always wonderful. Thought you might enjoy the powerpoint I put together of our dachshunds- Peni is a girly girl, diva princess who doesn't realize she is a d o g... Beau is our piebald - all hound dog, all boy, ready to roll in anything stinky and the world's best snuggler (he also has a few issues with food- hence his nickname, 'pig'). They are our babies. :-)

Breeder Surrenders Eight Country Dogs to Nebraska Dachshund Rescue

Are you ready to meet Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Conway Twitty, and Reba McEntire, just to name a few?  Eight Dachshunds were recently surrendered by a breeder to Nebraska Dachshund Rescue, and they have all been named after Country Western singers!  Excerpt from Action 3 News:

The dogs were given to them from a dog breeder who could not take care of them. Rescue member Julie Siebler is happy the breeder gave up the dogs before the animals got sick. "She has fallen on hard times financially so appropriate care of the dog, the food, the health care and any health issues that could go wrong with the dog she was unable to afford," said Siebler. The rescue's network of dog foster parents showed up to rescue headquarters taking the dogs home until new families adopt them. Siebler believes dog owners falling on hard times need to do the same thing the breeder did, so pets are not neglected.

That I'm ungainly?  What's ungainly?
I'm really rather graceful - mainly.
The experts have been known to state
That there's a twinkle in our gait.
One said "They have a clumsy grace,"

My funny features may abound;
Short legs, long body, low-to-ground,

This comes from a 1947 book of sketches and poems written and illustrated by Morgan Dennis (1892 - 1960).
Morgan Dennis was an American illustrator and author known primarily for his paintings of dogs. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up on Long Island, New York.
